Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 7-7 of 7; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

LABOUR's policies have been disastrous, often barely distinguishable from the Tories. But what's the alternative? handful of independent lent Socialist Unity candidates will stand on a clear socialist platform in the general election. But nobody's pretending that this represents a real alternative to Labour al present For that to happen, there would have to be a massive break with Labour throughout the working class movement, and we're still a long way from Big Flame will actively campaign for Socialist Unity and other left candidates Arrowsmith and Brendan Gallagher - because our long term aim is to build a socialist alternative to Labour.

We do support return of a Tory government. Reluctantly therefore, we call for a vote for Labour where there is no Socialist Unity or similar candidate
